WA MUSEUM BOOLA BARDIP OFFICIALLY OPEN
The official opening of the new WA Museum Boola Bardip has proven to be an overwhelming success with hundreds of thousands of people registering for tickets to visit the landmark building over the coming months.
Boola Bardip, which means “many stories” in the Noongar language, has been hailed across the globe as a ground-breaking museum showcasing Western Australia on a scale never before seen.
At the heart of the museum sits the historic Hackett Hall, which now hosts The Stan Perron WA Treasures Gallery – a collection of some of the most popular historic displays from the museum built up over many years.
Taking pride of place is the giant skeleton of the world’s largest creature, a Blue Whale, which washed up on the beach near Busselton in the State’s south in 1898 and then was painstakingly transported to Perth and prepared for display by the Museum’s then taxidermist Otto Lipfert.
Stored away for many years while the new Museum was built, “Otto” as the whale became affectionately known, soars above The Stan Perron WA Treasures Gallery – a spectacular attraction for everyone visiting the museum.
Perron Group Managing Director, Ross Robertson said significant donations by the Stan Perron Charitable Foundation had assisted the WA Museum in the transformation of Hackett Hall.
“As a very proud Western Australian, Mr Perron was an avid supporter of the new museum project before his passing in 2018,” Mr Robertson said.
“We are also pleased that Mr Perron’s own story features in the Treasures Gallery, which is appropriate given that his achievements in business and philanthropy very much weaved through the development of the State’s economy and wider community.”
