Since its start in 2014, Foodbank WA’s Perth Airport School Fruit Van has been delivering healthy food year round to students who may otherwise struggle to get fresh fruit. This is possible with support from the Stan Perron Charitable Foundation.

Each school week participating schools receive a 10 kilogram box filled with a variety of fresh local grown seasonal fruit. In 2020 the van delivered almost 23 tonnes of fresh fruit to a total of 75 schools who are in Foodbank WA's School Breakfast Program.

Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, the deliveries were paused between March to May 2020. However, they were able to resume in Semester 2 — with Foodbank WA consulting with teachers and staff to ensure deliveries were made in a COVID-safe manner.

Foodbank WA Fundraising Manager, Ian de Nazareth said “the team behind the scenes worked hard to keep the van delivering despite the impacts of COVID-19.”

"Despite restrictions in place with schools, deliveries were made, and most importantly the students did not miss out. We also reached a milestone with over 1 million pieces of fruit delivered since the program started."

In 2021 Foodbank WA celebrates 21 years of its School Breakfast Program, which provides nourishing breakfasts to students in preparation for the day ahead.
